The Surrey village of Longcross, situated between Virginia Water, Chertsey and Chobham, has always been a sleepy yet charming hollow. Attracting families looking for a quiet lifestyle, Longcross offers a greater choice of family home away from the hefty price tags of neighbouring villages.
There are a number of amenities in Longcross including The Old School Cafe - the life of the village, run from a traditional building on the main road, surrounded by lovely countryside. The cafe has been a family run business for over 50 years and reputedly does the best full English breakfast for miles and has outstandingly good Trip Advisor reviews. Ringo Starr of Beetles fame used to live directly opposite.
The village also is the home of Longcross Film Studios, where the James Bond Skyfall film was made and TV series Edge of Heaven is currently being filmed.
The vast Longcross Estate is owned by the current Prime Minister and Vice President on the UAE, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. It backs on to the 1400 acre wild expanse of Chobham Common where an American town set was constructed for the filming of Superman 2 in 1979.
In terms of accessibility Longcross has a railway station on the mainline line which runs between Reading and Waterloo making it a desirable destination for commuters.
Longcross is also shortly to undergo a massive development programme set to bring further wealth and facilities into the village. Crest Nicholson partnering with Aviva Investors are hoping to construct 1,500 mixed tenure homes and 79,000 sq m of commercial units in what will be known as Longcross Village. Initial works have already started.
This newly constructed 'garden village' will also boast an updated railway station, a primary school, local shops including a farm shop, playing fields and woodlands walking areas.
