28 Oct Halloween Raceday and Fireworks Spectacular kick start new Jumps season
Ascot’s first meeting of the new 2015/2016 Jumps season is the Halloween Raceday & Firework Spectacular which features one of the region’s largest firework spectaculars and has raised more than £30,000 for local charities in past years. It is a designated family day.
Racegoers can look forward to a memorable afternoon’s Jumps racing combined with fairground rides throughout the afternoon and an evening fireworks display from 6.15pm. Being Halloween be prepared for a few spooky surprises too including a ‘Trick or Treat’ station and a Halloween Fancy Dress Parade for children getting underway at 4.45pm. There will be prizes for the best dressed.
The feature race is the Sodexo Gold Cup Steeple Chase over three miles with its prize fund of £100,000. Other highlights include The Byrne Group Handicap Chase and the competitive William Hill Handicap Hurdle, which takes place over two miles.
For rugby fans big screens will show the final of the Rugby World Cup from 4pm. Fairground rides are free of charge until 4pm and cost £1 per ride thereafter. All profits are donated to local charities.
Nick Smith, Head of Communications at Ascot Racecourse said: “The Halloween Raceday is always a popular day for families and groups of friends. It is excellent value with free entry for under 18’s and is something a little bit special to celebrate both Halloween and Bonfire Night.
“You get the benefit of some good racing during the afternoon with the rugby, fairground and fireworks running into the evening. All profits generated from the fairground attractions are donated to local charities. Last year the meeting generated £32,000 for charity and we hope to exceed that in 2015.”
Tickets for the Halloween Raceday & Firework Spectacular can be purchased in advance. Premier Admission tickets have now sold out, but Grandstand tickets can be purhased in advance for £21. Accompanied children under 18 years of age gain free entry at all Ascot race meetings.
