But what makes a house a home? Do you have to own a property to make it your home? We don’t think so, that’s why we’ve put together some tips to help you to make your mark on your rental property and make it really feel like home.

Décor

You might not be that enamoured by the existing décor in your rental property. We recommend that our landlords decorate the property in neutral colours to make it easy for tenants to personalise it. If you want to repaint the walls you must check your tenancy agreement and get permission from the landlord. Alternatively, you can add artwork and mirrors to break up the existing décor and put your personal touch on the space.

Accessorise

When it comes to moving into a furnished property you may be confronted with furniture and flooring which aren’t to your taste. Fear not, there are a couple of fashionable ways to make the best of the situation. Big statement rugs are all the rage at the moment; these will add a flash of colour to your living space as well as cover up any unsightly flooring. The same goes for furniture – perhaps you are not too fond of the upholstery on your sofa. Simply get some cosy throws to change the look and feel of your entire room.

Additional Furniture

Quite often rental properties can lack a bit of storage space so why not supplement the existing furniture and décor with your own free standing furniture. You might not be particularly happy with the lighting in the property – standing lamps can solve that for you and make you feel more at home.

Trinkets

Surround yourself with the things your personal trinkets – gifts, photos and souvenirs can really bring your life and loves to a room and make you feel much more ownership over the space. Make sure you display then in a way that won’t feel cluttered – the mantelpiece or a side board is a perfect place to display a few of your favourite memories.

Bring the Garden Inside

House plants are a simple and effective way to add a splash of colour to your home. They can make even the coldest of rooms feel warm and loved. They are amazing air purifiers and for the non-green fingered of us – plants like Aloe Vera and most cacti are practically indestructible.
