03 Oct Michelin stars again for Latymer and Drake’s restaurants
Two restaurants in Surrey have retained their prestigious Michelin stars. Michael Wignall at the Latymer in Bagshot and Drake’s restaurant in Ripley have been included in the 2015 Great Britain & Ireland Michelin Guide published this week.
For the third year running, Michael Wignall at the Latymer has been awarded two Michelin stars for “excellent cooking”.
The intimate, 50-cover restaurant based inside the plush Pennyhill Park Hotel features LCD screens which allow diners to watch what the chefs are preparing.
In one of the many glowing reviews, Mr Wignall was described as a “cook of flair, artistry and monumental technical ability”.
Mr Wignall told Get Surrey: “We are delighted to have kept our two stars.
“It is a testament to all the hard work and dedication from the team – I couldn’t have done it without them.
“We’re very proud of what we’ve achieved and we’ll continue to keeping pushing forward to achieve bigger and brighter things in the future.
“It is also great to still be one of the only restaurants in Surrey with two Michelin stars.”
Serina and Steve Drake, who run Drake’s restaurant, are celebrating after their establishment was awarded a Michelin star for the 11th year running for “very good cooking”.
The couple, who opened the venue in 2004 and also own The Anchor in Ripley, have gained a reputation for serving contemporary British food using seasonal ingredients.
Mr Drake said: “We are delighted, and very proud, to have been awarded a star in the 2015 Michelin Guide.
“This is the 11th consecutive year we have achieved this. It has been a team effort and we would like to thank our whole staff, past and present.”
