11 Oct Somewhere for the weekend
The newly awarded two Michelin star Michael Wignall at The Latymer is a premier food experience. Describing his cooking as ‘complex, carefully crafted and very technical but not intimidating’ Michael’s style has familiar classical themes with all flavours staying true to themselves.
Michael Wignall at The Latymer has achieved a second Michelin star in the 2013 Michelin Guide. Michael now joins a small handful of other restaurants in the UK with this highly sought-after accolade awarded from the world renowned guide. A two-star ranking in the Michelin Guide represents “excellent cuisine, worth a detour”.
Michael comments, “A second Michelin star is an incredible achievement, it’s a goal I have been striving for ever since I came to Pennyhill Park five years ago. I’m still in shock to be honest, it’s the best news I’ve had in years! I am so proud of my team who work to exceptionally high standards for every service, and feel this really is testament to all of our hard work.”
Michael joined in November 2007 from The Devonshire Arms Hotel in North Yorkshire where he held a Michelin star and 4 AA Rosettes. His natural flair in the kitchen, expertise and passion for food has led to Michael Wignall at The Latymer fast becoming one of the finest destination restaurants in the South East of England and beyond. The restaurant first came to the forefront following the win of ‘Best Restaurant Newcomer of the Year’ in the Which? Good Food Guide 2009. Most recently, the restaurant was awarded five AA Rosettes in the 2012 guide, firmly putting ‘Michael Wignall at The Latymer’ on the British culinary map.
The Man Himself
Michael, who was awarded his first Michelin star 14 years ago, describes his cooking as ‘complex and carefully crafted’. Whilst the style is technical and the presentation elaborate, the food itself is not intimidating, having its roots in familiar classical themes. The textures, flavours and ingredients complement each other rather than jostling for position on the tongue.
Recently given the accolade of ‘Best Chef you have never heard of ‘ by Olive magazine Michael’s profile is growing with a guest spot on the BBC’s Masterchef, The Professionals as a judge and he was recently seen competing on ITV in ‘Britain’s Best Dish – The Chefs’.
When Michael’s not cooking up some exquisitely delicious and visually exciting dish he is out getting his thrills from travelling the World as well as fast track and extreme sports such as wakeboarding, snowboarding and downhill mountain-biking.
