15 Aug Biggest names in golf to return to Wentworth

With September around the corner we are delighted to have the prestigious BMW PGA Championships returning to our doorstep, and this year one of the biggest names in golf is stepping foot on the soil once more, with Rory McIlroy returning to play for the first time since 2019.

Founded in 1955, The British PGA Championships (renamed The BMW PGA Championships in 2005) is one of the flagship events of the DP World Tour (renamed this year from the European Tour due to a sponsorship deal with Emirati logistics company DP World). It has been held at The Wentworth Club since 1984. This year it is being held once more at Wentworth from 6th – 11th September.

We love to see the area full of pro golfers, celebs and lots of happy spectators, especially after a couple of quiet years during lockdown, we’re looking forward to this years’ full on festival. THE BMW PGA CHAMPIONSHIP 

The highlight of The Wentworth Club’s calendar is hosting The BMW PGA Championship. It is part of the DP World tour’s Rolex Series, which means it attracts some of the world’s top golfers to the tournament, all aiming to bag the huge prize fund and an automatic entry into the next US open.

The Rolex Series comprises of five of the most prestigious events in golf. They are held in iconic locations across the globe and delivers the highest quality of golf. Marking the start of the tournament is The Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship; then onto the Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic and over to the UK for the Genesis Scottish Open and to us here in Wentworth, the BMW PGA Championship; ending the season with the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai where the number one player of the tour is crowned as champion. 

Pro Golfers

Last year saw Billy Horschel claim victory by a single shot and this year Rory is returning after a two-year absence where he will tee up in search of a second BMW title at The Wentworth Club.

Celebrity players

Once again, the golf and entertainment worlds will combine for this huge festival of golf, Rory is likely to be joined by Lando Norris and Niall Horan and many more celebs in the light-hearted Celebrity Pro-Am event held on the Wednesday.

Tickets

Tickets are still available for Tuesday practice day and G4D (Golf For The Disabled) Tournament, Wednesday Celebrity Pro-Am, with some still available for Round 1 and 2 on Thursday and Friday. THE WENTWORTH ESTATE
